PARTIMI

London eco fashion brand PARTIMI, was founded by Central Saint Martins graduate, Eleanor Dorrien-Smith.  With work experience at Mary Katrantzou, John Galliano and Eley Kishimoto, PARTIMI presented their first full collection at Estethica, London Fashion Week’s eco fashion trade show, with the presentation of their spring summer 2011 collection.  Making her splash in the fashion world as early as her graduate collection at Central Saint Martins in 2008, Dorrien-Smith’s runway presentation was spotted and admired by US giant, Antrhopologie, who subsequently commissioned Dorrien-Smith to create a capsule collection for their stores.  The six-piece collection, named ‘Newspapers & Plastic Bags’ was launched in stores across the US, as well as online.

Drawn to sustainability from a young age, Dorrien-Smith was heavily influenced by the wonderfully eccentric ecology-based 1960’s hippy sensibility, developed into a ‘more considered’, modern, minimal design approach, grounded in architecture and new urbanism.  With the support and mentorship from the UK’s Centre for Sustainable Fashion, Dorrien-Smith fully developed PARTIMI as a sustainable fashion label, leading to their selection for the Fashioning the Future Award in 2009, and a   collaboration with the Environmental Justice Foundation, for a t-shirt project.

The brand name PARTIMI, stems from the term, ‘parti’, which is the conceptual starting point of a design project in architecture. With a lovely easy wear aesthetic, PARTIMI manage a minimal edgy collection with careful and creative use of color and print combinations.  With inspirations that range from dreamy nostalgia to winter gardens, PARTIMI portray their memory laden imagery beautifully through digital printing from photographs taken in adolescence, making for a deeply personal connection to the material content of theIr work.  PARTIMI is produced locally from ethically sourced organic textiles, and digitally printed to minimize waste.

The collection is stocked online by Young British Designers, and new bricks and mortar London store – Broadway Market boutique, ‘69b’, plus specially commissioned pieces by U.S. retailer, Anthropologie.

The idea of using digital printing from photographs taken in adolescence is fascinating, thanks for the inspiration x

Lovely and fun! I have not been drawn to the photographic textiles til now. Perhaps having a story makes a difference, but I love how the dense images almost mask the fact that it’s a photograph. I will have to look for the collection at Anthropologie here in Berekeley, CA.
