Emily Katz

Designer, artist, musician and activist, Emily Katz, designs stylish sustainable clothing and jewelry, as well as fronts the Portland, Oregon band, Love Menu, similarly made up of artist, designers and musicians. Love Menu, a group built around Emily Katz’s lyrical songwriting and rich voice, produces delicate nouveau folk compositions. Her two artistic endeavors coexist perfectly, one feeding and enriching the other. “The thing that’s been really great about doing the music and traveling with it, is that I can do my clothing sales at the same time.”

Born in the dessert hills of Tucson, Arizona, Emily Katz was named after Simon and Garfunkel’s “For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her”. Growing up playing in rivers and libraries, fueling her creativity, Emily represents a creative anomaly, a self-supporting artist, in a city where most artists support their creativity with a service job.

After studying at the Marilyn Institute College of Arts in Baltimore, and returning to Portland, Emily’s first clothing line, Bonnie Heart Clyde, was a crafty, whimsical collection of separates for men and women. Graduating to her own collection in her own name, the designer has grown up, while evolving into a sophisticated and modern collection. Emily Katz designs are sophisticated and understated, sustainable, elegant and practical. Featuring intricate warps and drapes in comfortable organic jersey, or body skimming in liquid metallic Lycra, as well as silk crepe de chine, soy and wool. Deceptively simple dresses mask more complex cutting and draping in monochromatic colors.  While tone on tone separates have a sporty edge combining comfort with an urban sensibility. The twenty-six your old designer juxtaposes diaphanous dresses with hard wearing, urban pieces, striving to fill a niche in the fashion industry as well as become a design staple in your closet!

Available in boutiques across the US, as well as Canada, Emily also sells her collection online, and has participated in multitude of group shows, as well as been featured in numerous magazine articles on both her music and her fashion.

The Emily Katz is no longer available; however, Emily Katz continues to express herself creatively.
