Zurita
Zurita is a slow, considered fashion project by Gabriela Farias Zurita that explores, honors and recontextualizes the tradition of Andean hand weaving
Zurita’s latest collection continues to challenge the fast fashion system through the production of a collection rooted to territory and steeped in tradition.
Zurita’s continues to work closely with the Aymara women artisans from the high plateau in the far north of Chile, along with the tailors of Santiago to produce a truly contemporary take on tradition.
The brand has now extended into five separate catagerioes, each of which honour the Chile, as well as the greater South American industry and heritage.Aymara women spin pure alpaca fiber, as well as vegetable dye, hand knit and hand weave one part of the collection.
Another segment of the collection pays homage to the almost extinct Chilean textile industry, through the use of vintage, Chilean produced linen and wool fabrications.
Organic Pima cotton and alpaca yarn celebrate South American textiles, and in particular Peruvian.
A low impact part of the collection uses fabrication and processes with a lower environmental impact, while the Andean Heritage category is made with ancient textile techniques, with tradition respected by not cutting the body of the textile.
