LENA is a fashion library based in Amsterdam. Much like a book library, visitors browse the contents and select items of interest, only in this case its clothing not books. As an antidote to throw away fashion and the desire for constant newness in our wardrobes, LENA allows you to wear beautiful clothing without the expense of actually purchasing them, thereby easing the burden of discarded and unwanted clothes in landfill. Allowing customers to enjoy new clothing without actually owning it, LENA customers simply return or exchange items when they want a change.

Like a regular library, you first become a member to be able to borrow. The library operates on a monthly subscription, and borrowing is based on a point system, with each item in the library given points based on uniqueness, style and quality. Dependent upon the type of subscription to you have, you choose items within your point allowance to loan.

LENA’s try before you buy system, allows customers to test an item before actually checking it out, and should you fall in love with an item, you have the option to actually buy it with a discount from your rental. You also have the opportunity to add to the library with items from your own closet and swap them out with something in the library, for which you get a ‘swap-credit’. The collection stays away from fast fashion finds, and focuses on quality designs, and includes high quality vintage items, emerging designers and eco label brands.
