Lisa Folawiyo

Having perfected the art of wearing “Ankara” a local West African fabric, Lisa Folawiyo built a collection of womenswear and accessories around the textile. Incorporating texture and embellishment, Folawiyo transforms the fabric to create a luxury womenswear brand. The collection incorporates contemporary design with culturally established tradition and custom prints. With a unique aesthetic, the brands signature body conscious, and tailored silhouettes are offset by playful, conceptual design, with more than a nod to traditional African styling.

Working with expert beading craftsmen, designs are hand embellished, taking an average of 240 hours a piece to produce. Each design boasts a uniquely hand crafted history from inception to construction that reflects the brands design integrity.

Showcased at the Milan Vogue Talent Exhibition in collaboration with Vogue Italia, Lisa Folawiyo has shown the collection at premier fashion weeks around the world including Johannesburg, London, Paris and New York. The collection has been featured in most major fashion publications, including Harper’s Bazaar, Lucky, Women’s Wear Daily, Drapers, Vogue UK, Style.com and a host of others, and worn by Lucy Liu, Thandy Newton and Solange Knowles. The Lisa Folawiyo collection is available online at Moda Operandi, as well as in store at Selfridges.
