Gary Harvey

Gary Harvey’s Fashion with a Conscience collection was inspired by vintage couture, and made entirely from recycled garments.  The challenge to create a couture-inspired dress collection using recycled clothing grew from a simple past-time to a serious message; that recycled garments can be made into something beautiful.  The silhouettes conjure up the refined elegance of vintage ball-gowns, with all inspired by the drama and proportion of vintage couture.  Produced for the first Estethica Exhibition at London Fashion week, Harvey intended to change people’s perception of second hand clothing and creating fashion with a conscience through his dramatic display.  The collection started out as the answer to creative frustration for his freelance fashion work.  The first item produced was a dress made entirely out of 42 pairs of Levi 501’s.  Since then, Harvey’s passion for creating recycled couture has led him to produce a dress from Burberry’s mac’s a fishtail corset dress from 28 camouflage Army jackets, a body contouring gown from discarded baseball jackets and the now iconic newspaper dress made form 30 copies of the Financial Times.
