Preloved

Preloved creates one-of-a-kind clothing from reclaimed and vintage fabrics.  With fit, comfort and style acting as their driving force, the collection is trend conscious but wearable, with a broad range of items including dresses and separates. The entire collection is beautifully rebuilt out of clothing from the past, including scraps of forgotten workpants and worn out curtains, reappearing as womans vest or floaty summer dress. Preloved clothes are highly identifiable, while still being one of a kind. “Our passion is design and our philosophy is sustainability.”

The founder, Julia Grieve, learned a love of recycled clothing while traveling around the globe as a model, when she would creatively alter and redesign her own clothes. After the completion of her modeling career and returning to Toronto, Canada, she decided to continue her career in the fashion industry, while satisfying a gap in the market, re-making vintage and discarded clothing and materials.

Creative Director Peter Friesen, a Paraguayan Mennonite, and the Creative Director, moved to Toronto to study at Ryerson University’s fashion design program. Interning at Preloved during his studies, he continued on as Creative Director after completing his degree. His role is to design and conceive of the collection from concept and theme through to finished garment, with Julia acting as an editor or internal buyer, selecting the final pieces to best harmonize in the retail environment.

Preloved also produce a children’s wear collection inspired by Julia’s own children, as well as a home collection and an accessories line. There is a stand alone Preloved store in Toronto, Canada, and another in Sydney, Australia. The collection also sells at wholesale worldwide, to boutiques in North America, Australia, Europe and Japan, mostly notably Anthropology.
