Inkkas

Originally established in 2012, Inkkas is a socially conscious, authentic and original hand made footwear company made from traditional South American textiles. The collection, available for men, women and children features a broad range of iconic South American textiles, in brilliant and earthy tones and tribal patterns that reflect the Aztec roots of the country that inspired them. With a range of styles from slip on’s to high tops, the collection is entirely produced to Fair Trade standards. The hand made nature of each pair of shoes, using traditional shoe making techniques ensures the longevity of each pair, and creates less waste en route. Inkkas also produce a range of 100% vegan shoes with zero animal by products utilized in their manufacture.

Inkkas launched their US fundraising campaign through Kickstarter in November 2013, aiming to raise $20,000 worth of funding, and receiving over $70,000. Dan Ben-Nun, founder of Inkkas says of the Kickstarter campaign “We believe it’s vital to remain independent from large investors and capital firms who may require us to change our approach to responsible production in exchange for finance. Our goal is to create the most beautiful and comfortable shoes in the world while maintaining our personal connection to the great people of South America.”

Producing custom kicks made in a family owned workshop in Lima, Peru, the shoes are made with authentic and instantly recognizable South American textiles from Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. Each pair is custom made to order, with every single process, including the sewing done by hand, and all the materials locally sourced, from the textile to the laces and hang tags. Each order directly supports real communities and artisans living in Peru. A portion of all proceeds is donated to local South American communities that help protect the Amazon rainforest and those that inhabit it.
