Alchemy Initiative

Alchemy Initiative is an urban model of sustainability and community in the heart of downtown Pittsfield. Working to inspire and empower the community to transform the common into something special. They are an intentional living laboratory and a catalyst for social change, promoting the principles of holistic living, art-making, and sustainability.

In just over a year they have converted the grounds of the former Notre Dame church into an urban farm.  Raised beds have been hand-built; vegetables, fruit, herbs, and flowers are grown; and bees and chickens  are also in abundance.  They work to reduce their carbon footprint and utilize environmentally sound living practices.  They are also an educational facility for the arts and a sustainable community. Currently functioning as a meeting space for the community and housing artisan studios and a workshop space. Classes include reconstruction crafts, culinary arts, gardening techniques, and more.

Their future plans include a commercial kitchen, reading room, café, hostel and to develop the event space.
