Frau Wagner

Frau Wagner processes vintage and unwanted, clothing and turns them into one off, unique luxury items.  The worn garments are innovatively constructed into something completely new, using high quality materials. Working with organza, chiffon and fur, but also sportswear linings in alternating overlays.

The transformation of “mend and make do” is taken to the extreme by labeling each item with the name of its buyer. This is not just about the radically personalisation of each piece of clothing, but also a reversal of the idea of branding where multiples of the same are available. Each dress features an individual label such as; Frau Braun, Frau Mösch, Mrs.Vita etc. In this way, an anachronistic label is created, the name of which is not decided by the designer, but by the wearer.

Duration and change, black and white, inside or outside, Grace Kelly versus Ami Winehouse… Frau Wagner is  interested in contrasts.  She processess clothing with a distinctive social code, such as uniforms, sportswear or gentlemen’s shirts, transforming them into an antithetical context. Men’s ties are reborn as swishing skirts, an old police uniform is turned into a lascivious bustier dress and sportswear is transformed into elegant evening attire.

The entire process is then documented, culminating with an individual portrait of the wearer and her outfit.
