Julia Barabee

Julia Barabee is the name behind the label of the same name, formerly Frocky Jack Morgan, a character who served in World War I, and lived in North Carolina near the creator of the labels, family. He defected, and wore a house dress because Jesus wore a dress.

The collection by Julia Barabee is a visual, literary and olfactory journey of investigation, observation, creation and art.  “I create because I am created.”  With inspiration drawn from tactile bits, woolen fiber, and gossamer then deconstruct to allow for embellishment with extraordinary antique pieces, Julia Barabee explores the history of the garment industry through old couture hems and grandma’s tatting; dancing delicately between finding materials, and composing a form, while endeavoring to be a steward of the environment in some small way. Favoring a neutral palate, hence forcing texture to become a dominant element. Formally trained in sculpture, Julia Barabee uses tiier education in creating clothes and sculpting on the human body, with each piece one of a kind.
