AWAVEAWAKE

Launched in 2012, AWAVEAWAKE was established to start a conversation about ethical fashion and conscious sourcing. Founder Jaclyn Hodes strives to bring change to the fashion world, and increase awareness of the industry’s impact on the environment as well as the economy. Each design is made from ethically sourced materials, and dyed with natural plant-based colors. A conscious supply chain ensures that consideration for both the long and short-term impact on the environment is taken into account.

Styling is inspired by the designer’s vast archive of lingerie from the 1930’s, and combined with her love of swirling, full-length, body-conscious 70’s silhouettes. Slip dresses with subtle details form the core of the collection, and are layered with blouses, corselet style tops, shawls, capes and bed jackets. The easy wear pieces are elegant, feminine and sensual, reminiscent of boudoir dressing, with bias cut slips in luxurious silk, and shrouded in sheer chiffon wraps. The color palette ranges from the palest powdery tones through to rich jewel bright’s.

After studying art history, sculpture and writing in New York, and film studies in Paris, founder Jaclyn Hodes fell into the world of fashion by assisting stylists on editorials for the likes of i-D, Nylon and, Dazed & Confused, as well as working as a fashion editor for Vice. Interning at FIT’s museum of fashion, as well as the MET’s Costume Institute, exposed Hodes to the free silhouettes of the 60’s and 70’s, later forming the creative inspiration behind the collection.
